Responsibility belongs to everyone
Safety is a shared responsibility. To create a safe working and learning environment, everyone needs to remain alert, follow instructions, and act responsibly in their daily work. Responsibility lies with the institution, with those who manage work and teaching, and with each individual who uses the buildings, equipment, and facilities.
The institution is responsible for ensuring that buildings, facilities, and equipment are safe and well maintained.
It ensures that appropriate safety measures are in place, that information and instructions are accessible, and that feedback on areas for improvement is acted upon.
In this way, the institution provides the framework on which safe work is built.
Managers and teachers are responsible for setting a good example in matters of safety. They should familiarise themselves with rules and guidelines, communicate them to others, and encourage safe working practices.
They also have an important role to play in creating a culture where it is natural to discuss risks, ask questions, and take action before something goes wrong.
Staff and students are responsible for following instructions, familiarising themselves with precautionary measures, and treating buildings, equipment, and work areas with care.
Each individual must act responsibly and show consideration for others.
We also share responsibility for one another: if we see that something is going wrong, it is important to speak up, point out the risk, or help ensure that the matter is addressed appropriately.
